The Cracked Vase by Van Gogh also know as The Cracked Vase With The Big Daisies is one of several valuable items the Germans wants to get hold of during the series 'Allo 'Allo! It is sometimes also called "Vase With Twelve Sunflowers". This painting, together with The Fallen Madonna is often used as a running gag and a plot device to make the story move forward in the series. The painting as a part of the plot first appeared in the episode Pretty Maids All In A Row in season 3..
History[]
The painting were first shown and a part of the Allo Allo story when René were hiding the real painting of The Fallen Madonna behind it. General Von Klinkerhoffen acquired the painting from the café believing it had substantial art value[1]. The true identity of the painting were discovered in a conversation with Fanny La Fan who told she got it from Vincent Van Gogh himself when she was dating him in her younger days.[2]
Together with another painting, The Fallen Madonna by van Klomp, the painting became a ongoing gag during the series. It were also forget, hidden and disguised in sausages, often by René Artois in Café René as a favor for Colonel Von Strohm with the intent of not being discovered by Herr Flick of the Gestapo.

Legacy[]
The painting used in the series 'Allo 'Allo is often credited to Van Gogh, but doesnt refer to any real paintings. However, the real painter Vincent Van Gogh painted a lot of still life, and the painting referred to in the series may be based on his actual paintings Sunflowers.
